Context
I created this project as part of my CI 5585 ("Teacher Leadership and
School Improvement") class, taught by Dr. Sara Zimmerman during Summer
2004. Although most students in this graduate course were
in-service teachers, a few, like myself, had yet to obtain a full-time
teaching position. Since I was taking this course as an
undergraduate, I had not yet begun my student teaching
experience. I created this plan for school self-assessment
using journal articles, the Internet, and AppleWorks.
This artifact should be used by teachers or administrators who are
interested in beginning a supplemental school assessment program which
involves teachers, students, and the community.
-
Impact
This artifact will support professional communication by serving as a
framework for implementing a self-assessment program in a school.
-
Alignment
This project allows for the use of technology (e-mail, message boards,
computer print-outs, etc.) to collect and analyze opinions about the
school, its instructional practices, and its current accountability
program(s). These same technologies would be used to communicate
the results of the surveys and to help interested parties collaborate
in the process of creating a new accountability program. Thus,
this artifact satisfies NETS-T standard IV-B
and NCATC 12.2.
One of the aims of this leadership project is to involve school
personnel and community members in order to improve instructional
practices, which demonstrates INTASC principle 10
for school/community involvement.
