During my Senior Seminar (MAT 4015, Spring 2004) course, my professor,
Dr. Deborah Crocker, helped me to obtain a membership to the site education.ti.com, operated by Texas
Instruments. This site offers members a vast array of research
articles on technology use in the mathematics classroom, sample lessons
and activities, and free trial access (or full access) to software
applications for TI-branded graphing calculators. The Guess My Coefficients application
in Artifact 6 was obtained from this site. Such a membership
could be useful for any pre-service or in-service teacher of
mathematics.
Impact
Membership with this site supports my teaching by providing me with
lessons and activities which involve technology. This artifact
supports instructional practice by giving me the opportunity to use and
evaluate software applications before purchasing or distributing them
to students. This membership also supports my professional
development by providing me with current research on teaching
mathematics with technology.
Alignment
This site membership and its associated resources allow me to engage in
ongoing professional development and learning with respect to
technology and its uses in teaching mathematics; thus, this artifact
satisfies NETS-T standard V-A.
This artifact represents my use of national resources to meet student
technology needs, which demonstrates competence in NCATC standard 13.4.
